A Growing Relationship Between Québec’s & New England’s Marine Technology Communities
Memo of Understanding Signed by Technopole Maritime du QuébecandMarine & Oceanographic Technology Network
(April 3, 2018) – Last month, on March 12, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Technopole Maritime du Québec (TMQ) and the Marine & Oceanographic Technology Network (MOTN) at a special ceremony and reception.
Signaling a growing relationship between Québec's & New England's marine technology communities, the document marks an important step for both. The Memorandum serves as a framework for information exchange, contacts between businesses, research entities, and students and faculty, as well as the mutual pursuit of growing opportunities in ocean and coastal observation systems, ocean technologies, aquaculture, marine biotechnology, maritime transportation, technology transfer and commercialization, and related infrastructure and sustainable development projects.
"[Our region is one of the most active, innovative and diverse focal points for marine technology in the world. With this MOU, we join with TMQ to use our combined knowledge, skills and experience to assure that our riverine, coastal and oceanic endeavors are done sustainably]," explained Harlan Doliner, maritime attorney at the law firm Verrill Dana and immediate past president of MOTN.
The Memorandum reflects the leadership and efforts of many from both New England and Québec, including Mme Marie-Claude Francoeur, Québec's Delegate in Boston; Noémie Giguère, Director of TMQ; and MOTN's Board of Directors.
