First Maine Named Co-Chair of the ABA Workers’ Compensation Standing Committee

(August 24, 2017)- Verrill Dana attorney Elizabeth Connellan Smith was appointed as the first co-chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Workers' Compensation Standing Committee from the State of Maine at the ABA Annual Meeting on August 14. The Workers' Compensation Standing Committee is a Section of the ABA's Labor and Employment Law Group.

During the three-year term, Smith's obligations will include overseeing the Section's annual seminars and ensuring that all programming keeps members abreast of the latest trends and issues in workers' compensation nationally.

Also a member of the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network and a Fellow of the ABA College of Worker's Compensation Lawyers, Smith has a wealth of experience in workers compensation law. Over the course of her nearly 25 years of practice, she has counseled clients, crafted policies and litigated numerous labor and employment law matters, primarily defending claims brought against Maine employers. Smith also blogs on workers' compensation issues on Verrill Dana's labor and employment blog,Taking Care of HR Business.

About the ABA Workers' Compensation Standing Committee: The committee examines substantive issues common to all state workers' compensation systems, the procedures governing the administration and adjudication of those laws, and the relationship between workers' compensation laws and other federal and state employment laws.
