Thomas Bean Finds His Spark
Attorney Thomas Bean was recently featured by University of Michigan Law School in an article entitled "Grads Giving Back: Thomas Bean, '86, Finds His Spark." The alumni feature discussed Thomas Bean's community service work at Spark Academy, a public middle school Bean helped co-found in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Since 2012, Bean has volunteered at Spark Academy as an educator and advisor. Last year, Bean helped over 17 students gain admission to exam high school in Lawrence, and three students to prep schools on full scholarships.
In the article, Bean underscored the important role mentors play in helping students rise to their greatest academic potential. He explained, "Every day I go to school is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of one or more of my students. It is my job to show students where the door to opportunity is, it is our job to open it, and it is their job to walk through it."
