Verrill Dana is committed to creating a culture of respect and inclusion and exceeds national standards in hiring and promoting female attorneys. For its recognitions in diversity and inclusion, Verrill Dana was included in a Mainebiz article, "Women Have A Growing Presence in Law Firms, But Lag Behind Men in Leadership Roles and Pay." The article highlights the firm's history and actions it continues to take that set the firm apart. Verrill Dana was the first law firm of its kind in Maine to elect a female managing partner and when asked about Verrill Dana's first female attorneys hired in the 1970's, attorney Jacqueline Rider explains, "It's hard to say why the leaders at the time were of the mindset to be inclusive, but it certainly has been important to the firm and certainly there's a lot of recent data that shows gender-diverse companies perform better."
