Verrill Dana Recognizes Robert Laplaca for His Public Service with Firm’s Annual Roger A. Putnam Community Service Award

October 26, 2017 Press Releases

(October 26, 2017) – Verrill Dana announces attorney Robert Laplaca as the 2017 Roger A. Putnam Community Service Award recipient for his charitable work and, in particular, his role as a firefighter for the Weston (CT) Volunteer Fire Department.

Joining the all-volunteer fire department 15 years ago, Laplaca, with fellow volunteers, performs fire services to approximately 10,000 residents and is on call 24/7, 365 days a year. He has completed state-certified courses that require combined hours of classroom work and hands-on training. In addition to serving as a firefighter, Laplaca has led the department's explorers and junior firefighter programs.

"We are proud of Rob, and the rest of the firm's attorneys and staff, who continue our long tradition of giving back and strengthening our communities," said K.C. Jones, Managing Partner of Verrill Dana. "Rob embodies public service and devotes substantial efforts to his community, including responding to between 50-100 calls per year at all hours of the day and night. We thank him for his commitment and hope that his efforts inspire others to support the causes that are important to them."

As said by his friend and colleague, "Rob has a very easy going personality, but he has fire in his belly when it comes to his work, his family and friends, and public service."

Verrill Dana created The Roger A. Putnam Community Service Award in 2014 in honor of Verrill Dana attorney Roger Putnam, whose more than 50 years of service to the firm have exemplified the ideals of service to the community and to the legal profession. The award is given annually to recognize a Verrill Dana attorney or staff member who embodies the spirit of community service through volunteerism, leadership inside or outside the firm, fundraising and advocacy. Each year, a $1,000 donation is given to the charity of the honoree's choice. This year's donation will go to the Weston (CT) Volunteer Fire Department.
