Verrill Dana Welcomes Three New Associates
(November 2, 2016) – Verrill Dana welcomes attorneys Samuel J. Baldwin, Christopher T. Monroe and Michael G. Kebede as associates in the firm's Portland, Maine office.
Baldwin, a former reporter and editor at several midcoast Maine newspapers, received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude. He also received an Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award in Taxation and the Edward S. Godfrey Leadership Award for his work as the Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review. Most recently, Baldwin served as a law clerk for Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justice Donald Alexander, working on a wide array of legal issues in numerous areas of the law. He received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, cum laude.
Kebede received his law degree cum laude from the Boston College Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Environmental Affairs Law Review. As a law student, he volunteered to assist asylum seekers succeed in their legal claims and became the inaugural Law Fellow of the Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy, an institute dedicated to bringing cutting-edge scholarship on social and legal issues to the wider public. He was most recently a clerk for Chief Justice Saufley of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine. Prior to coming to Verrill Dana, Kebede attended the University of Oxford to pursue a master's degree in Socio-Legal Research. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, summa cum laude.
Monroe is a seasoned maritime professional and served in a diverse range of influential positions throughout his 20-year military career in the U.S. Navy, including as commanding officer of a Bath-built AEGIS destroyer. He received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, where he authored the "prize brief" in a class-wide appellate competition and competed at the national level in an Admiralty Law Moot Court competition. Chris received his master's degree in business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and his bachelor's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
