Verrill Dana Attorneys Honored for Pro Bono Service

November 8, 2016 Press Releases

(November 8, 2016) – Verrill Dana is pleased to announce that 14 of its attorneys were recognized at the 2016 Maine Supreme Judicial Court Katahdin Council Recognition event at the Cumberland County Courthouse. Hosted by Chief Justice Leigh Saufley and Associate Justice Andrew Mead, the occasion served as an opportunity to recognize attorneys who had completed 50 or more hours of pro bono service in the previous year.

The Verrill Dana attorneys recognized as 2016 Katahdin Counsel are: Tawny L. Alvarez, Heidi A. Bean, Braden M. Clement, Seth S. Coburn, Jonathan M. Dunitz, James G. Goggin, Nora R. Healy, Rita S. Heimes, Christopher S. Lockman, Marie J. Mueller, Stephen B. Segal, Spencer R. Thibodeau, Mathew J. Todaro and John W. Van Lonkhuyzen.

"Verrill Dana values service to the community and supports equal access to justice for all Mainers. We are grateful that the Katahdin Counsel Program recognized so many Verrill Dana attorneys, and we appreciate the efforts of the entire Maine legal community to provide critical pro bono legal services to those in need," said Nora Healy, Verrill Dana's Pro Bono Coordinator. More information about Verrill Dana's Pro Bono Program is available at www.verrilldana.com/probono.

About the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program: The Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program was created by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, in response to a proposal by the Justice Action Group, to focus the public's attention on the critical role that pro bono publico plays in maintaining a vibrant civil justice system. The purpose of the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program is twofold. First, to establish an annual process for recognizing and honoring the pro bono work of Mine's lawyers. Second, to encourage more lawyers to provide such services for Maine's low-income residents to help to meet their growing unmet legal needs. Attorneys who have completed 50 or more pro bono hours in a year qualify for Katahdin Counsel Recognition.
