Mike Saxl Quoted in Portland Press Herald on Ranked Choice Voting Strategy

Mike Saxl and Clara McConnell of Maine Street Solutions were recently quoted in the Portland Press Herald for their role supporting legislation to expand ranked choice voting (RCV) to Maine’s 2026 gubernatorial election. The bill was strategically recalled by lawmakers to preserve the option of revisiting a 2017 advisory opinion that limits RCV in state-level elections.

Mike, who worked with advocates on the bill, noted: “There is still a chance that ranked choice voting could be used in the 2026 election, but any delays in acting early in the second session could make it difficult for the Secretary of State to implement. Even if there isn’t enough time to do it, it’s still good policy for 2030.”
