Verrill’s Energy Group counsels both regulated and unregulated entities in the development, permitting, construction, and operation of electrical transmission and distribution lines. We have successfully obtained Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity from the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC); regional interconnection approvals; and federal, state, and local land use permits for the construction and operation of new electrical lines. Our lawyers negotiate and obtain real estate easements necessary for transmission projects, provide stakeholder management services to minimize conflict and maximize support for projects, and resolve financing and tax issues. We utilize a highly successful interdisciplinary approach to ensure that the project is brought on line consistent with each client’s unique business objectives.
