Summer Associates

The Verrill Summer Associate Program is a comprehensive, 10-week program for law students designed to give a realistic picture of life at Verrill, providing summer associates with the information they need to determine whether Verrill is the place for them after graduation. Our program provides summer associates with the opportunity to get to know each other and all firm members by hosting a variety of in-person and virtual social events that align with our culture and well-being.

Since most of our first-year associates are drawn from our Summer Associate Program, it is the heart of our recruiting efforts. The size of our collaborative summer class is designed to meet our long-term hiring needs without competing for a limited number of positions.

Verrill’s summer program offers real-life experience to understand the day-to-day life of a typical associate at the firm. Summer associates will rotate through a variety of practice groups over the summer and will enjoy individualized opportunities. The program is based in our Westport office; however, summer associates receive challenging assignments from members of all offices. Substantive assignments will involve significant research and writing, as well as opportunities to observe hearings, trials, closings, and client meetings. By shadowing our attorneys with clients and other counsel, summer associates are exposed to the collaborative team effort and challenging work that distinguishes Verrill.

Each summer associate is assigned a peer contact and mentor to provide guidance in their transition from law school to private practice. Throughout the program, summer associates receive feedback on each project they have been assigned. At mid-summer and summer’s end, each summer associate meets with the Chair of the Hiring Committee to receive feedback on their progress and provide us with feedback on the practices in which they are most interested.

Verrill’s 2027 2L Summer Associate Class has been filled and are no longer accepting applications. Please check back in the Fall of 2026 for information regarding our 2028 2L Summer Associate position.
