        Verrill Welcomes Experienced Trust & Estates, Tax Partner Ruth Mattson

        (January 5, 2022) – Verrill is pleased to welcome Ruth Mattson to the firm’s Boston office as a Partner in its Private Clients & Fiduciary Services Group.

        Mattson advises individuals and families on estate planning and business planning opportunities, concentrating on international plans. Their work includes advising U.S. individuals who hold foreign assets on receiving gifts in a tax-efficient manner, as well as advising non-U.S. individuals to regarding how to hold U.S. real property. They also administer multinational estates and trusts, with a focus on U.S. planning.

        “Ruth’s wealth of international experience expands the legal services we provide to our clients and provides depth to our practice,” said Jacqueline Rider, Chair of Verrill’s Private Clients & Fiduciary Services Group. “We could not be more pleased to welcome Ruth to Verrill.”

        Prior to joining Verrill, Mattson was a partner at a Massachusetts-based international tax law firm. They have advised U.S. beneficiaries of foreign trusts regarding their U.S. tax positions and reporting requirements. They work with foreign counsel to resolve problems that arise for foreign beneficiaries of U.S. trusts. Mattson advises families regarding gifts from non-U.S. persons to U.S. beneficiaries. Mattson is the co-chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Boston Branch and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Earlier this year, Mattson was honored with the Boston Estate Planning Council President’s Award.

        Mattson is a lecturer at the Boston University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program and co-developed a new course on U.S. information reporting. They frequently write and speak on topics related to international estate planning and U.S. taxation. They earned their bachelor’s degree from DePauw University, law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law, and their L.L.M in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.
