Three Verrill Attorneys Honored by the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program

PORTLAND, Maine – Martha C. Gaythwaite, Hans C. Eysenbach, and Jennifer S. Novo were recognized for their outstanding contributions at the 2025 Katahdin Counsel Recognition Ceremony, held on October 16, 2025.
The Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program was established in 2011 by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to highlight the importance of pro bono work in supporting Maine’s civil justice system. Maine lawyers generously donate their time and resources to help those who cannot afford legal services. The program annually honors these contributions and encourages more attorneys to assist low-income residents with unmet legal needs. Participation is voluntary and self-reported, with recognition events held each October during Pro Bono Week.
Gaythwaite is a partner, and Co-Chair, of Verrill’s Litigation and Trial Group. Gaythwaite has spent most of her career representing clients before juries, trying more than 150 civil jury cases to verdict. She has handled complex commercial and product liability matters nationwide, including those involving aviation, agriculture, workplace accidents, and medical devices. In addition to her trial and administrative work, Gaythwaite has a longstanding interest in environmental law, which began during her time with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Eysenbach is an associate in Verrill’s Environmental, Telecommunication, and Natural Resources Group. Eysenbach represents private clients, industry groups, and government entities before state and federal regulators nationwide. He has handled cases before utility commissions in multiple states and has experience with rulemaking, investigations, and approval proceedings. Eysenbach also advocates for energy and telecommunications clients before state legislatures, providing testimony and leading strategic government relations efforts in Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
Novo is an associate in Verrill’s Bankruptcy Group. Novo advises both debtors and creditors on bankruptcy matters, including Chapter 11 reorganizations, asset transactions, and related litigation. Before joining Verrill, she worked at another leading New England law firm and served in several bankruptcy-focused roles, including a two-year clerkship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts.
