Tawny Alvarez Quoted in Mainebiz on Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave law
Mainebiz
Verrill Partner Tawny Alvarez recently spoke with Mainebiz to discuss the changes Maine businesses may face as they prepare for the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave law, taking effect May 1, 2026.
In it, she noted, “Most small businesses are struggling with how the new law will impact operations on a day-to-day basis, especially when we discuss the difference between current obligations and what they can expect if the same circumstances were to happen a year from now once the law is in effect.”
Tawny also commented on companies becoming leaner, adjusting operational hours and services while trying to cut costs to offset rising expenses in other areas such as supplies, tariffs, workforce development, and health care.
