Local Law Firm Hires First-Ever ‘Diversity Partner’
The Boston Business Journal recently highlighted Verrill Partner Geoffrey Why’s new position as Diversity Partner, and what that his new role means for the firm. In this additional capacity, Geoff will manage the diversity efforts of the firm and focus on three primary fronts: culture, hiring, and vendor relationships. Verrill has long had a diversity committee, but Geoff will be working to bring a more cohesive approach to the firm’s efforts across those three factors. Geoff has already begun working with members of the firm to expand recruiting from more traditional, elite schools to also include historically Black universities like Howard university and Brooklyn Law School. While initially hesitant to take on this role on top of his thriving legal practice, Geoff agreed when he realized the ‘need and want for the position by the firm.’ Geoff said, “I really wanted to measure the seriousness and the genuineness of the firm leadership about this role. I just did not want to take this role if I didn’t believe there was a genuine commitment.”
