Verrill Named ‘Ceiling Smasher’ in Law360 Pulse’s 2022 Glass Ceiling Report: Women in Law

September 14, 2022 Press Releases

BOSTON, Mass., PORTLAND, Maine, and WESTPORT, Conn., (September 14, 2022) – Verrill has yet again been recognized as one of the top law firms in the country for female attorneys and partners in Law360’s annual Glass Ceiling report. Verrill, a “Ceiling Smasher” is ranked fourth in the country for its percentage of female equity partners, among firms its size. In total, women account for 40% of the partners at Verrill.

“It’s great to see that our diversity numbers are trending in the right direction, and we want to see that continue. The firm is growing and changing, and I think we’re at a pivotal moment--with new leadership and genuine excitement and dedication to continue our work on gender equality and diversity and inclusion,” explained Karen K. Hartford, Partner at Verrill and Chair of its Diversity and Inclusion Committee. “We all have an interest in working in a culture where every person feels comfortable being themselves and sharing in the opportunities ahead of us. We are so ready to do the work that’s necessary to have this culture! I can’t wait to find out where the momentum leads.”

Each year, Law360 releases two reports regarding law firms who are leading the way in gender equality. The “Ceiling Smashers" list is based solely on the percentage of female equity partners to male equity partners. The, larger, “Glass Ceiling Report,” examines representation of women at the equity partnership level and in the firm’s total attorney headcount.

“It is an honor to be at the helm of a firm that is doing the hard work to instill a culture of belonging and civility,” explained Scott Anderson, who became Verrill’s Managing Partner earlier this year. “While we have made a great deal of progress, like many firms we need to do more to address decades of bias. We continue to be committed to furthering our diversity and inclusion efforts within our own firm, the larger legal community, and in the communities we serve.”

Verrill has been consistently recognized for its efforts in gender equality. Verrill was recognized as one of the top ten law firms in the country for gender equality by the National Law Journal’s "NLJ 500 Women's Scorecard," in 2017 – 2021 in addition to being named a Law360 "Ceiling Smasher" in 2017 and 2019 – 2021 and was ranked in Law360's 2016 and 2015 Glass Ceiling Reports.
