Verrill Welcomes Intellectual Property Partner Patrick Duplessis, Enhancing the Firm’s Highly Sophisticated Patent Practice
WESTPORT, Conn. – Verrill is pleased to welcome esteemed IP attorney Patrick Duplessis to the firm’s Intellectual Property Group as Partner, resident in the firm’s Westport office.
Duplessis maintains a diverse IP practice, serving as lead counsel for domestic and international clients of all sizes, from large corporations to venture-backed startups and individuals. Duplessis works with his clients to develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies that set the stage for capital funding, commercialization, and long-term growth. His practice includes patent drafting and prosecution, patent and trademark portfolio management, strategic IP and product design counseling, risk management, and litigation. He has drafted and prosecuted countless patent applications in a wide range of complex and highly regulated technical fields. He drafts IP-related agreements and provides day-to-day counseling regarding protection of trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, and other proprietary information. Duplessis also advocates for clients in litigation and other contested matters related to patents, trademarks, copyrights, false advertising, contracts, privacy, and free speech. Duplessis has appeared in U.S. district and appellate courts, and in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
“Patrick brings additional depth to the firm’s active and growing IP practice,” explained Charles Bacall, Chair of Verrill’s Intellectual Property Group. “His technical knowledge and experience allow us to enhance services to our clients in new and evolving sectors, complementing the team’s existing experience in areas such as health care and life sciences, intralogistics, software, and manufacturing areas, among others.”
Prior to joining Verrill, Duplessis practiced at a boutique IP firm and in the IP group of a large full-service firm. “As a partner at a boutique IP firm, I spent time trying to manage everything from human resources to IT. Verrill’s resources will allow me to re-focus my efforts on client relationships, legal work product, and business development. The strong culture and leadership at Verrill provide a great platform for the continued growth of my practice. My clients routinely encounter legal issues outside of my IP practice area. In the past, I was forced to refer this work to other law firms. At Verrill, we have a deep bench of attorneys that can service all of my clients’ legal needs at a competitive price.”
