Administrative Assistant

Portland, ME

Verrill is seeking to add an Administrative Assistant to our Portland Office within our Real Estate Practice Group.

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 130 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Augusta, Maine; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

With a strong desire and capacity to learn on the job, we would consider an entry-level candidate. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: retrieving, sorting, scanning and distributing attorney mail, docketing hearings, meetings, filing deadlines, creating/maintaining working files and closing cases/client matters, assisting with circulation of working invoices and making narrative changes, drafting cover letters, processing conference/seminar registrations, arranging travel requirements and submitting reimbursements, completing manual dictation, scheduling departmental meetings and taking minutes at meetings and responding promptly to requests with the ability to successfully multi-task in a fast paced environment.

The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, excellent computer skills (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and attention to detail. Applicants should have strong administrative skills and must have the ability to prioritize tasks successfully. Flexible, positive and hardworking attitude required. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the role of an Administrative Assistant within a full-service law firm environment.

Corporate Paralegal/Specialist

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 130 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine; Boston, Massachusetts; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

The Corporate Governance, Mergers & Acquisitions and Securities Practice Group seeks a professional, motivated self-starter with hands-on experience to support the attorneys in this practice group. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and computer skills, have experience with annual reports, audit letters and annual compliance filings and have the ability to interact regularly with clients with an understanding of how best to serve them. The candidate should have the desire to become a specialist in helping to build innovative ways to maintain corporate records, being an integral member of the team working with fast paced mergers & acquisitions closings and adding value to clients (from startups to large entities) with regards to record keeping and other corporate matters. Responsibilities will include significant interactions and developing relationships with Secretary of State’s Offices throughout the country.

Applicants should be self-motivated individuals capable of producing high quality work in a timely and professional manner. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience or a Juris Doctorate. The successful candidate will take initiative within this role and have a positive, can-do attitude, excellent attention to detail, be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, the ability to maintain work flow with accuracy and efficiency, and the ability to successfully work with others in a diverse team setting. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the role of paralegal/specialist within the practice group and within a full-service law firm environment.

Labor & Employment Associate

Verrill seeks to hire an associate attorney to join our Portland office as a member of our Labor & Employment Practice Group.

Our Labor & Employment Group practices on a national stage. In addition to regular appearances in state and federal courts, they often appear before those state and federal agencies that create and enforce the various frameworks that regulate the employer/employee relationship. Areas of experience include matters involving wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, workers' compensation, wage and hour laws, employee privacy and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. They are active in labor management relations, union negotiations, representation elections and arbitrations. Advice on issues involving equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, employment contracts, non-competition agreements and public sector employment round out the inclusive list of services provided by Group members.

The ideal candidate will have: at least three years of private practice experience in labor and employment law; superb research and writing skills; superior verbal/interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex theories to other attorneys and clients; a license to practice in Maine and another New England jurisdiction; and an interest in practicing in Maine, with a willingness to travel to our other offices in Boston and Westport.
