Human Resources Assistant

Portland, ME

Verrill is actively reviewing resumes for a Human Resources Assistant in our Portland, Maine Office.

As one of New England’s top full-service law firms, we are interested in adding the best individuals to our team. This would be a full time position in our Portland, Maine office, although we have been working remotely, we anticipate that this position will be in the office. The candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Human Resources Department (currently four team members), supporting staff and attorneys by assisting with recruiting efforts, event planning, benefit support, file management, data reporting and special projects. With a proven strong desire to learn, an entry level candidate may be considered. A candidate with experience may also be considered as we are able to provide ever evolving professional challenges.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, excellent computer skills (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), superior communication skills (written and verbal) and attention to detail. Applicants should have strong administrative skills, some office experience and must have the ability to prioritize tasks successfully to meet fast paced department deadlines. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the role of Human Resources within a full-service law firm environment.

Real Estate Paralegal

This position is designed to be a part time position with the flexibility to work remotely. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with: title insurance, preparing title commitments, policies and endorsements, E-Recording and drafting of related real estate documents. Typical responsibilities may include: title research in the various Registries of Deeds in Maine, as well as other states as needed; including full title searches, current owner searches, asset searches, and searches addressing issues such as boundary disputes, water and beach rights and road rights.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional technical and organizational skills and the ability to learn and work independently. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand the mechanics of title searching, the Maine Title Standards, and proceedings in Bankruptcy, District, Superior and Probate Courts. Familiarity with surveys, plans and plotting legal descriptions and the ability to summarize title work in detail will be necessary. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the role of a Real Estate Paralegal within a full-service law firm environment.

The successful candidate will be the primary expert on the applications and systems he or she is assigned to support, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues. Typical responsibilities include application operation and troubleshooting, technical research, configuring and troubleshooting hardware, and audio/video equipment support. This position includes training of attorneys and staff, either one on one or as an instructor in our internal technical training program when appropriate. Previous help desk experience is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional technical and organizational skills and the ability to learn independently. A college degree in computer science, information technology or related field is preferred. A commitment to providing superior customer service is essential. Candidates must enjoy problem solving and working with others to find effective solutions to computer related issues. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the role of the IT department within a full-service law firm environment.

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 130 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Augusta, Maine; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for planning, oversight, and implementing a wide variety of marketing and business development initiatives aimed at raising the profile of the firm and enabling Verrill attorneys to build client relationships and generate new business. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for the execution of supporting the business and strategic goals of the firm's practice groups through developing and implementing strategic marketing and branding initiatives, including digital marketing, internal communications, public relations and advertising. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will work closely with senior leadership to manage marketing operations of the firm while leveraging firm wide resources, including aligning internal communications with external branding and messaging.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic and results-oriented marketing professional with at least eight years of experience working in marketing and business development within a law firm or other professional services environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities and take initiative to lead projects. A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing preferred. A willingness to travel to our offices regularly is required. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the role of the Marketing department within a full-service law firm environment.

Our Labor & Employment Group practices on a national stage. In addition to regular appearances in state and federal courts, they often appear before those state and federal agencies that create and enforce the various frameworks that regulate the employer/employee relationship. Areas of experience include matters involving wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, workers' compensation, wage and hour laws, employee privacy and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. They are active in labor management relations, union negotiations, representation elections and arbitrations. Advice on issues involving equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, employment contracts, non-competition agreements and public sector employment round out the inclusive list of services provided by Group members.
