Real Estate Attorney

Portland, ME

Verrill is seeking to add a partner-level Real Estate Attorney to our Portland Office.

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 130 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine; Boston, Massachusetts; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

Verrill's real estate lawyers are widely regarded as premier practitioners in the region. Clients turn to Verrill’s Real Estate Group for its broad depth of substantive knowledge, extensive experience, and sterling reputation. In particular, many clients choose our real estate team for its sound business sense and practical approach to completing a transaction. Our real estate attorneys execute skillful due diligence and competitively negotiate agreements, all with the understanding that the ultimate goal for most clients is to minimize risk while successfully completing a business transaction.

The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of Maine real estate experience and must have demonstrated abilities to develop business, maintain client relationships, and manage and mentor junior attorneys. Labor & Employment Associate

Portland, ME

Verrill seeks to hire an associate attorney to join our Portland office as a member of our Labor & Employment Practice Group.

Our Labor & Employment Group practices on a national stage. In addition to regular appearances in state and federal courts, they often appear before those state and federal agencies that create and enforce the various frameworks that regulate the employer/employee relationship. Areas of experience include matters involving wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, workers' compensation, wage and hour laws, employee privacy and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. They are active in labor management relations, union negotiations, representation elections and arbitrations. Advice on issues involving equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, employment contracts, non-competition agreements and public sector employment round out the inclusive list of services provided by Group members.

The ideal candidate will have: at least three years of private practice experience in labor and employment law; superb research and writing skills; superior verbal/interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex theories to other attorneys and clients; a license to practice in Maine and another New England jurisdiction; and an interest in practicing in Maine, with a willingness to travel to our other offices in Boston and Westport.

Our employee benefits and executive compensation clients include large health systems, colleges and universities, banks and financial service companies, energy and biotech companies, publicly traded companies, well known privately owned businesses, and more.

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation, demonstrated abilities to develop business and mentor junior attorneys, and at least $750,000 in portable business. A significant client base in health care and higher education are of particular interest to the firm, given our group’s strong presence in those areas.
