Environmental & Energy Associate Attorney

Portland, ME

Verrill seeks to hire an associate attorney to join our Portland office as a member of our Environmental and Energy Practice Groups.

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 135 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine; Westport, Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

The position is well suited for either an entry-level Associate or an Associate with several years of legal experience with complex statutory and regulatory programs. The ideal candidate will have a desire to support active practice groups that focus primarily on development, permitting, compliance and regulation of energy and other infrastructure projects, including environmental and land use permitting, PUC regulation and legislative and municipal relations. While not necessary, experience in politics would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have excellent legal and academic credentials; superb research, writing, and document management skills; superior verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal directly with clients, third party consultants and governmental officials; and rigorous attention to detail combined with unflagging responsiveness to clients and their needs. Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer

Verrill is seeking to add a Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer to our Boston or Portland Office. Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 130 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Augusta, Maine; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for planning, oversight, and implementing a wide variety of marketing and business development initiatives aimed at raising the profile of the firm and enabling Verrill attorneys to build client relationships and generate new business. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for the execution of supporting the business and strategic goals of the firm's practice groups through developing and implementing strategic marketing and branding initiatives, including digital marketing, internal communications, public relations and advertising. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will work closely with senior leadership to manage marketing operations of the firm while leveraging firm wide resources, including aligning internal communications with external branding and messaging.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic and results-oriented marketing professional with at least eight years of experience working in marketing and business development within a law firm or other professional services environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities and take initiative to lead projects. A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing preferred. A willingness to travel to our offices regularly is required. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the role of the Marketing department within a full-service law firm environment.

Our employee benefits and executive compensation clients include large health systems, colleges and universities, banks and financial service companies, energy and biotech companies, publicly traded companies, well known privately owned businesses, and more.

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation, demonstrated abilities to develop business and mentor junior attorneys, and at least $750,000 in portable business. A significant client base in health care and higher education are of particular interest to the firm, given our group's strong presence in those areas.
