Private Clients Associate Attorney

Portland, ME

Verrill is seeking to add an associate attorney to join our Portland office as a member of our Private Clients Practice Group.

Verrill is a full service law firm with more than 135 attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from our offices in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Augusta, Maine; Westport, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Washington, D.C.

Our Private Clients & Fiduciary Services Practice Group is among the most experienced in New England. The attorneys in the Group work closely with individuals and families to understand the clients’ priorities and goals and their intentions for the legacies they wish to provide.

The ideal candidate should have experience in all aspects of estate planning and estate and trust administration. Candidates with relevant tax experience are preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience of estate planning within a private practice law firm.

The ideal candidate will also have excellent legal and academic credentials; superb research, writing, and document management skills; superior verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal directly with clients, and rigorous attention to detail combined with unflagging responsiveness to clients and their needs. Human Resources Assistant

As one of New England’s top full-service law firms, we are interested in adding the best individuals to our team. This would be a full time position in our Portland, Maine office, although we have been working remotely, we anticipate that this position will be in the office. The candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Human Resources Department (currently four team members), supporting staff and attorneys by assisting with recruiting efforts, event planning, benefit support, file management, data reporting and special projects. With a proven strong desire to learn, an entry level candidate may be considered. A candidate with some experience may also be considered as we are able to provide ever evolving professional challenges.

This would be a full time position resident in our Portland, Maine or Boston, Massachusetts office and although we have been working remotely, we anticipate that this position will be in the office from time to time in the near term and full-time post pandemic. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, experience working with databases/litigation support technologies, and an aptitude for technology in the field. Prior litigation experience, eDiscovery training or certification, or an interest in technology are highly desirable. Applicants should have the ability to work effectively as a member of a team with attorneys, clients, other paralegals, legal assistants and outside organizations, as well as have strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to details and the ability to manage many duties simultaneously. Candidates should be able to provide logistical and technical support for trials in New England with a willingness to travel (post pandemic). Travel between Verrill’s offices will be necessary.

The candidate will be responsible for assisting lead counsel and litigation teams on litigation matters through the use of technology, including large and complex document reviews and productions. The candidate will develop and implement best practices for collection of ESI, processing, tracking collections and productions, producing ESI, and other eDiscovery workflows. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, stay apprised of current trends and developments in eDiscovery technologies, strategies, and solutions. Superior communication skills (written and verbal) and attention to detail are required. Applicants should have strong administrative skills and must have the ability to prioritize tasks successfully to meet fast-paced department deadlines. Boston Office Administrator

Verrill is actively seeking to add an Office Administrator for our busy and growing Boston Office.

Verrill is a full service law firm with about 120 Attorneys conducting a nationwide practice from offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine, Boston, Providence, Rhode Island, Washington D.C. and Westport, Connecticut.

The Office Administrator will be responsible for the “hands on” business administration of our Boston office with more than 35 attorneys, including all support functions and staff coordination. This position will manage the routine operations of the office; including human resources, financial planning and controls, facilities, telecommunications and information technology; and will also work closely with the Firm’s senior Administrative Team in Portland to ensure consistency with our “one firm” policy and procedures reporting directly to the Firm’s COO.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and four or more years of office management experience, familiarity with a private law firm setting and the challenges, as well as be a creative and flexible problem solver. Candidates must have experience in managing others in a professional work environment, including directing workload, performance management, training, event planning/marketing, staffing and recruitment. The ideal candidate will have a positive “can do attitude” who communicates effectively with all levels of the firm across all platforms: written and oral; formal presentations and on the fly; and have stellar computer skills.

The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for planning, oversight, and implementing a wide variety of marketing and business development initiatives aimed at raising the profile of the firm and enabling Verrill attorneys to build client relationships and generate new business. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will be responsible for the execution of supporting the business and strategic goals of the firm's practice groups through developing and implementing strategic marketing and branding initiatives, including digital marketing, internal communications, public relations and advertising. The Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer will work closely with senior leadership to manage marketing operations of the firm while leveraging firm wide resources, including aligning internal communications with external branding and messaging.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic and results-oriented marketing professional with at least eight years of experience working in marketing and business development within a law firm or other professional services environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities and take initiative to lead projects. A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing preferred. A willingness to travel to our offices regularly is required. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the role of the Marketing department within a full-service law firm environment.
