Litigation/Health Care Legal Assistant

Boston, MA

Verrill is seeking an experienced administrative professional to join our Boston team.

Applicants should be capable of producing high quality work in a timely and professional manner. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with experience in a full service law firm and/or applicable educational background. The successful candidate will have the ability to work closely with clients, attorneys, and other employees throughout the firm.

This position is a full-time position in our Litigation Practice Group; previous litigation and/or health care experience strongly preferred. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, revising legal documents and memoranda, filing documents with the courts, proofreading, timekeeping, maintaining files (paper and electronic), conducting online and general research, transcription, answering the telephone, assisting clients, and responding promptly with the ability to successfully multi-task in a fast pace environment.

The successful candidate will have  at least one year of experience, exceptional attention to detail, strong organization skills and excellent computer skills (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint-experience with Evidox and Eclipse SE is a plus). Applicants should have strong project management skills and must have the ability to prioritize tasks successfully. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the role of a legal assistant within a full-service law firm environment.

Junior Floating Legal Assistant

This position is an entry-level, full-time position.  The junior floating legal assistant is responsible for performing administrative functions in support of a group of attorneys and other legal assistants. New Business Intake Specialist

Verrill is actively reviewing resumes for a New Business Intake Specialist in our Portland, Maine office.

With help from General Counsel, IT, and Accounting staff, this role will manage the firm’s conflict and intake systems. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting conflicts of interest research, assisting in the identification and resolution of conflicts of interest, drafting waivers of conflict of interest, counseling attorneys with respect to ethical issues and issues related to conflicts of interest and escalating issues to General Counsel as appropriate, advising concerning client-generated terms of engagement and, where appropriate, negotiate same with clients.

A Juris Doctorate degree and/or 2 years of legal experience preferred. The successful candidate will take initiative within this role and have a positive, can-do attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to maintain workflow with accuracy and efficiency, and the ability to successfully work with others in a diverse team setting. Help Desk Technician

Verrill is actively reviewing resumes for a Help Desk Technician in our Portland, Maine Office.

This position is designed to be a full-time position. The successful candidate will be the primary expert on the applications and systems he or she is assigned to support, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues.  Typical responsibilities include application operation and troubleshooting, technical research, configuring and troubleshooting hardware, and audio/video equipment support. This position includes training of attorneys and staff, either one-on-one or as an instructor in our internal technical training program when appropriate. Previous help desk experience is strongly preferred. 
 
The ideal candidate will have exceptional technical and organizational skills and the ability to learn independently. A college degree in computer science, information technology or related field is preferred. A commitment to providing superior customer service is essential. Candidates must enjoy problem-solving and working with others to find effective solutions to computer related issues.

Verrill seeks to hire an associate attorney to join our Portland office as a member of our Labor & Employment Practice Group. 

Our Labor & Employment Group practices on a national stage. In addition to regular appearances in state and federal courts, they often appear before those state and federal agencies that create and enforce the various frameworks that regulate the employer/employee relationship. Areas of experience include matters involving wrongful discharge, employment discrimination, workers' compensation, wage and hour laws, employee privacy and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. They are active in labor management relations, union negotiations, representation elections and arbitrations. Advice on issues involving equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, employment contracts, non-competition agreements and public sector employment round out the inclusive list of services provided by Group members.

The ideal candidate will have: at least three years of private practice experience in labor and employment law; superb research and writing skills; superior verbal/interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex theories to other attorneys and clients; a license to practice in Maine and another New England jurisdiction; and an interest in practicing in Maine, with a willingness to travel to our other offices in Boston and Westport.
