On February 24, the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future sent out a press release regarding the panel on climate equity to hold first meeting on February 26. During the meeting, experts from across Maine, the Equity Subcommittee of the Maine Climate Council, will advise and support implementing the state’s four-year climate action plan. Attorney and Portland city councilor Spencer Thibodeau is co-chair of the Equity Subcommittee, joining Ambassador Maulian Dana of the Penobscot Nation.
Spencer was quoted in the press release, saying:
“I’m honored to have been asked to co-chair this crucial panel, and to bring the experience of Maine’s diverse populations to the forefront of climate planning,” said co-chair Councilor Spencer Thibodeau. “As temperatures and sea levels rise, so do the threats the public health, food security and economic stability of our most vulnerable people. The Maine Climate Council and the Mills Administration deserve credit for their foresight on climate change, and for their dedication to taking immediate action.”
